Westonka Animal Hospital is proud and excited to be a leading implanter of Home Again Lost Pet Retrieval systems in the state of MN.
If your dog is ever lost, most humane societies (including Hennepin County and Wright County), police departments (including Mound and Orono), have the scanners to identify your dog if he/she has an implanted microchip and can have you contacted within minutes.
To eliminate pain associated with implantation of the chip, we encourage implantation while your dog is under anesthesia. The implantation fee and investment into your dog's security is $61.87. This excludes the national registration fee which is additional. We will be sending the application home with you at discharge so you will be mailing in the application and national fee separately from your home.

Westonka Animal Hospital is one of the first private practices in the country to use a laser surgical unit. This breakthrough technology, which was only available before to research institutions is now available to your pet and will revolutionize veterinary surgery.
Rather than a scalpel blade, a laser uses a highly focused beam of light about the size of this period, à^.ßto vaporize cells and nerve endings.

Why use laser surgery? Laser Surgery Information

• Less pain    the laser seals nerve endings as it "cuts", so your pet may require less anesthesia during the operation, reducing the risk of complications. Pain after surgery is also reduced.
• Less bleeding   the laser seals small blood vessels during surgery, making the routine procedures virtually "bloodless".
• Less swelling   Laser surgery does not crush, tear, or bruise because there is no physical contact with the tissue.

• Reduced risk of infection   the laser sterilizes as it removes diseased tissue, killing bacteria that cause infection.
• Precision    the laser can remove unhealthy tissue without affecting or removing surrounding healthy tissue. For example, the laser will vaporize any cancer cells and will not potentially allow cancer cells to break off or "seed" adjacent tissue such as might happen with a scalpel blade.
• More Effective Cancer Surgeries   the laser will vaporize any cancer cells and will not allow cancer cells to break off or "seed" adjacent tissue such as might happen with a scalpel blade. That is why we feel we must mandate that all cancer surgeries be performed with the laser.
• Quicker Return To Normal Activities   Healing is rapid and there is less post-operative discomfort.

Your Surgery & Safety Investment Does Include:
• preanesthetic blood biochemical health screen which checks the major anesthetic excretory organs
  (if your dog has had a normal preanesthetic biochemical health screen done within the last three months, your dog's surgery will be discounted by $60.40)
• the biochemical health screen report
• safety intravenous catheter for patients
• preanesthetic calming medication
• gas inhalent anesthesia (much safer than injectible anesthetics)
• intraoperative monitoring
• intraoperative intravenous fluids
• post surgical pain medication as needed while in the hospital
• post surgical hospitalization and rest area
• a scheduled discharge visit & written discharge instructions from a certified technician so all of your questions can be answered.
• a post surgical Comort & Pain Care Package^* to go home with you
