With the massive 2007 Menu Foods pet food recall, many pet owners are reconsidering feeding commercially prepared pet foods. As a result, we have received a few requests for coming up with formulas or recipes for some patients.
Formulating a customized diet is a long, complicated process. It should be done by people with advanced training, specifically, nutritionists.
In the state of Minnesota, we are fortunate to have a board certified veterinary nutritionist in our state. There is a nutritionist at the College of Veterinary Medicine on the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota. For the best information for a customized diet for your pet, please contact the Small Animal Clinic appointment desk at the College at #(612) 625-1919.
If you have a healthy pet, who is being seen by a veterinarian on a regular basis, and has had routine blood screening evaluations, then maybe more of a "cookie cutter" recipe approach may work for your pet. Following are some links or lists to other resources which may be helpful to you. Westonka Animal Hospital & Laser Surgery Center does not endorse any of these sites. They are only listed here as a convenience to you, that's it.
Sincerely,
